Subject: NWS Schoharie Reservoir warning services moving from
Gilboa dam gaging station to downstream station at Gilboa bridge

Due to a change in the way the New York City department of
environmental protection (nycdep) is able to operate the
Schoharie Reservoir... the currently established flood stage at
the Schoharie Creek at Gilboa dam (giln6) river forecast point is
no longer a consistent indicator of downstream flood impacts.

As a result... while forecasts of pool elevations will still be
provided by the National Weather Service (nws)... flood warnings
will no longer be issued for this point. Instead... the river gaging
station just downstream of the Schoharie Reservoir... Schoharie
Creek at Gilboa bridge (gbrn6) will be used as the primary indicator
for downstream flood impacts.

Current flood stage on Schoharie Creek at Gilboa bridge (gbrn6) is
20 feet and action stage is 18 feet. As part of this service
coordination effort... these were determined to be too high to
accurately depict downstream flood impacts. Thus... concurrently with
the move in warning services... flood categories will be lowered. New
flood categories at Gilboa bridge will be:

Action stage15 feet
flood stage17 feet
moderate flood stage19 feet
major flood stage22 feet

Flood Warning services for Gilboa dam New York (giln6) will be moved
to Schoharie Creek at Gilboa bridge (gbrn6) at 8 am eastern daylight
time on Wednesday June 3 2015. The above new flood categories will
also go into effect at this time.
