Areal Flood Warning

Statement as of 10:20 PM EST on November 23, 2014

Expires 4:15 PM EST on November 24, 2014

... The Flood Warning remains in effect until 415 PM EST Monday for
Erie... northern Chautauqua... Wyoming... southern Genesee and
northwestern Cattaraugus counties...

At 1010 PM EST... temperatures in the lower 50s will slowly rise
during the remaining overnight hours... reaching close to 60 by
midday Monday.

While rainfall will generally be a third of an inch or less through
Monday morning... the rate of snow melt will intensify with the
rising temperatures so that significant melting of the water laden
snow pack will lead to areas of flooding. Meanwhile the potential
for ice jam flooding has lessened... but this is a risk that will
still have to watched into Monday morning.

Residents near creeks are urged to take precautions to prepare for
possible flooding now... including moving items from basements.
Residents should be prepared to evacuate if ice jams force water
over river banks as moving water is a life threatening situation.

Since many storm drains are snow clogged... many urban areas will
likely experience flooding with several feet of water possibly
accumulating on some stretches of Road. Some residential basements
will start to flood at this time as well.

In addition... very strong winds will develop Monday and Monday
night. These winds will bring down some trees and power lines...
possibly causing scattered power outages. This will also cause sump
pumps to fail.

A Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or has been reported

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the
roadway. The water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross
safely. Move to higher ground.

Lakeshore Flood Watch

Statement as of 10:39 PM EST on November 23, 2014

Expires 1:00 AM EST on November 26, 2014

... Lakeshore Flood Watch remains in effect from Monday afternoon
through late Tuesday night...

* locations... Lake Erie shore of Chautauqua and Erie counties.

* Lake Shore flooding... strong southwest winds will cause Lake
Erie water levels to rise sharply late Monday afternoon
through Tuesday night. Water levels may rise to near the flood
stage of 8 feet above low water datum.

* Timing... late Monday afternoon through overnight Tuesday night.

* Impacts... sharp water level rises may result in flooding along
the Lakeshore... mainly in lower areas along the shore and in
bays and harbors as well as the shores and marinas of the
Buffalo River and upper Niagara River.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Lakeshore Flood Watch means that conditions favorable for
Lakeshore flooding are expected to develop. Residents on or near
the shore should take action to protect property... and listen for
later statements or warnings.

High Wind Warning, Wind Advisory

Statement as of 10:05 PM EST on November 23, 2014

Expires 1:00 PM EST on November 24, 2014

... Wind Advisory remains in effect until 1 PM EST Monday...
... High Wind Warning remains in effect from 1 PM Monday to 4 am
EST Tuesday...

* locations... Chautauqua and southern Erie County. Strongest
winds tonight and Monday morning will be near the Lake Erie
shoreline.

* Timing... midnight tonight through late Monday night.

* Winds... southeast 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph late
tonight and Monday morning... becoming southwest 25 to 35 mph
with gusts to 60 mph Monday afternoon and night.

* Impacts... winds of this magnitude could bring down some trees
and power lines resulting in scattered power outages. Due to the
recent melting of the past weeks heavy snow... an unfrozen...
saturated ground will make it easier for some trees to be
toppled over... especially shallow rooted pines. These winds
would also make difficult travel for high profile vehicles. In
addition... Holiday decorations could be damaged and other loose
outdoor items such as trash cans could be blown away.

Power outages could also exacerbate flooding concerns for those
with flooded basements as sump pumps would not work without an
emergency... generator power supply.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A High Wind Warning is issued when sustained winds of 40 mph are
expected for at least an hour... with gusts of 58 mph or greater
at any time. Damage to trees... power lines... and property are
possible with wind of this magnitude. If you have a high profile
vehicles be extra careful until the wind subsides. Stay tuned to
weather radio or other radio and TV stations for further details
or updates.

A Wind Advisory is issued when sustained winds are forecast to be
31 to 39 mph or gusts will range between 46 and 57 mph. Winds of
these magnitudes may cause minor property damage without extra
precautions. Motorists in high profile vehicles should use
caution until the winds subside. Stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio
and other radio and TV stations for further details or updates.
