Special Statement

Statement as of 3:25 PM HST on May 25, 2017

Expires 12:00 PM EDT on May 26, 2017

... Coastal flooding anticipated in conjunction with high tides
and incoming South Shore surf...

Coastal flooding impacts associated with record level King tides
will continue each day along all shores through the Memorial Day
weekend. Beaches and shorelines, boat ramps and docks, and
vulnerable low-lying roads and structures will be threatened by
coastal flooding, particularly around the daily high tide times
during the late afternoon and early evening time frames.

The following are the daily forecast tide levels and times for
Honolulu which will correspond to coastal flooding impacts. Be
advised that observed tides have been running higher than these
values.

5/25 today 4:21 PM HST 2.4 feet
5/26 Friday 5:07 PM HST 2.5 feet (south shore surf expected)
5/27 Saturday 5:55 PM HST 2.4 feet (south shore surf expected)
5/28 Sunday 6:46 PM HST 2.3 feet
5/29 Monday 7:40 PM HST 2.1 feet

Other islands and shorelines can expect similar daily high tide
times and heights. Please visit the website tidesandcurrents.NOAA.Gov
for more information about water levels in your area.

In additions to the tidal effects, a large, long period south swell
is expected to build Friday and maintain through Saturday. The
combination of large surf and high water levels at high tide will
result in additional wave run up and flooding along the south
shores that typically remain exposed during normal high surf
events. A high surf advisory has been issued for exposed south
facing shores beginning Friday. Please see the coastal hazard
message (cfwhfo) on our website for more information about the
surf heights and impacts specific to the south shores.

Surf and water levels are forecast to gradually trend back toward
normal through the upcoming week.

and incoming South Shore surf...

Coastal flooding impacts associated with record level King tides
will continue each day through the Memorial Day weekend. Flooded
beaches, vulnerable low-lying roads and coastal areas, boat ramps
and docks will be impacted during these hours surrounding the late
afternoon and early evening high tides each day.

The peak tides are expected Friday and Saturday, which will
coincide with a new south swell that will generate advisory-
level surf along along south facing shores late Friday through
Saturday. A combination of large surf and high water levels will
result in additional wave run up, likely flooding beaches along
the south shores that typically remain exposed during normal
conditions. Surf and water levels are forecast to gradually trend
back toward normal through the upcoming week.
